The Internet giant Google has given itself a new logo. The new, no-frills typeface is supposed to fit better to smartphones.
Everything new makes Google the summer: First, the company operates in a new holding company called to Alphabet, now gets a new Google logo. Background is the smartphone revolution.
The colors have remained the same: blue, red, yellow, green. But the Google logo font has changed significantly as of September 1. Instead of the previous Serifenfonts enters a simple document, as used in primary school textbooks.
It is the sixth time that Google in its 17-year history changed its logo. This change is the most serious change since May 1999. At the time, Google emphasized the exclamation mark behind his name.
“I’m sure that many people will be disappointed, because everyone freaks out when such a company changed something,” said the acting creative director Wally Krantz.
Google announced the new logo better suited to smartphones, where more and more people, the Internet search engine drive. The mobile Internet is increasingly replacing from access to the network via desktop computers. “We are introducing a new logo and a new identity of the family of companies that reflect this reality”, the company said on its company blog.
Also the small icon – such as for app buttons – changes. Instead of a small “g” on a blue background, it is the future a big “G” in the four Google colors red, yellow, green and blue.
Google has grown from a small start-up to the second largest IT company in the world – but one thing almost always remained the same: the logo was only minimally adapted from 1999 onwards. But now Google has a clear completely new logo in the corporate blog presented.

The reason is the increasing use of mobile devices, Google spokesman Klaas Flechsig said the “world.” “The fine serifs of our logo is seen on mobile devices barely” Flechsig said. With the new logo we wanted to ensure that Google will continue on all devices manages a stylistically unified presence.
The logo therefore changed in the same direction as last the entire design language on computers: As with mobile operating systems iOS and Android is the design “flat.” Instead of fine embellishments and 3D appearance predominate simple, flat forms. This can be captured better on small mobile screens.
Even the most recent changes of the logo in 2010 and 2013 went in a similar direction: the colorful Google letters have lost some of your 3D appearance. But the differences are only the trained eye noticed – the changes were minimal. The last time that the Google logo so radically altered, was in 1999 – and then called the leader among search engines still AltaVista.
With the renaming of Google in the Alphabet Holding the Logo-change had nothing to do, said Google spokesman Flechsig further – the step had been planned for a long time. Google announced last month the restructuring into a holding company called alphabet, to get around the on-line advertising and the numerous new business of biotechnology to separate the core business cleaner to robotics.
